Killdeer Nest
Images of Killdeer nest by Sharon Watson. A Killdeer nest is extremely well-camouflaged in gravel. The bottom pic shows a hatchling alongside two eggs not yet hatched. Shorebirds typically lay clutches of four eggs. The beautiful markings of shorebird eggs made them highly prized when egg-collecting (now illegal) was the rage a century or so ago.
